Connecting Resources to the Afghan Community

Why ReEstablish Richmond?

  • ReEstablish Richmond is the trusted hub for information and support for the 1500+ Afghans who have already resettled in Richmond in the last 6 years.
  • More than 50% of our current clients are women from Afghanistan, and we have the cultural and linguistic competencies to support the most vulnerable group in of individuals in Afghanistan.
  • Our caseloads and requests for support have doubled in the last week. We must increase our staff capacity to respond to the overwhelming needs of the Afghan community.

What is ReEstablish Richmond doing immediately?

  • Supporting 40+ already resettled Afghans who are helping their friends and family members to evacuate Afghanistan.
  • Supporting 15+ volunteers who are working directly with resettled Afghans to process the paperwork for 100+ family members.
  • Orienting and on-boarding 80+ interested new volunteers who want to support these efforts.
  • Working with 2 Dari + Pashto speaking mental health professionals in the area who have offered to provide some pro-bono sessions for Afghan clients and are working on connecting clients to 1:1 counseling and group therapy sessions.
  • Planning 2 informational sessions for our volunteers and community partners (public) and for the resettled Afghan community (private) with the goals to provide information + resources about the ongoing crisis and answer urgent questions about the process of evacuation.

What will ReEstablish Richmond do long-term to support already resettled + new Afghan Evacuees?

**Our goal is to raise $30,000 by the end of October to support our Afghan Evacuation response. Any money raised that does not go to our immediate response will be used to increase the capacity of our Transportation Independence program, which will help newly evacuated Afghans become safe, licensed drivers.**
